SUPERBOWL

This years WOL SuperBowl event was once again held down in Indianapolis. A total of 61 teens and 11 leaders went this year. We took in the game between the Dallas Mavericks and the Indiana Pacers. The Pacers won 111-107.

After the game, we all gathered near the court and the gospel was presented to all of us that were there with Word of Life. Following was an opportunity to respond to the invitation to receive Jesus Christ as our Savior and many teens responded. So pray for them that they would grow spiritually.

Following this we had AMP time where some of the teens get the opportunity to compete in the on-court games. This all ended at 12:30 am but our night was just getting started. Our group walked to the Gameworks Arcade at Circle Center where we were met with Papa John's pizza. We had fun playing video games in the wee hours of the morning.

We left there at 3 am to go to the bowling alley. It must have been the late hours because many of us were just not on our game. After all, how well can you actually be expected to bowl at 4:00 in the morning! We left around 5:30 and made it back to Rensselaer safely at 7:00 EST / 6:00 CST.

Leafin'

Eleven Word of Life students along with four leaders participated in the leaf rake on Saturday morning. They were able to rake four yards followed by lunch at the Nagel's. Thank you to all who served! Thank you to the Nagel's for providing lunch!

November Chillin'

We held Chill with Phil again on friday night. Ten Sr. High students came to enjoy caramel apples, leftover halloween candy and games. We played euchre, balderdash and Skinner impressed us all by writing the new Chill with Phil theme song. Well, what I hope becomes the theme song. All we need to do is add lyrics.

Below are some pictures from the evening!

Gull Lake Ministries Night!!

Seven staffers from Gull Lake Ministries traveled down to share in the evening with our WOL youth ministry tonight. Ambush, Hoe Down, Chief Running Bear, Blue Ranger, Rimshot, (no those aren't their real names) Melody and Kim came to share in worship with music, gospel message and prayer as well as fun games and an opportunity to share about GLM with our church family.

We started the night with some grouping games where you had to find your team by only humming the tune to the song on the piece of paper you were given and then by making the animal noise based on the animal written on the paper you were given.

We then played "Name That Tune" where the gals ousted the guys by a narrow 2201 to 2200 margin. We followed that up with some great songs "Romans 16:19", "Your Everlasting Love" and "Blessed Be Your Name". Then Daniel shared the message with us about "Knowing Jesus".

We had some time to mingle after watching the GLM Week 5 DVD and enjoy a root beer float! It was a great night and enjoyed by all.

There are brochures in the church foyer if you would like more information or want to view a DVD, you may take one of those as well. Their website is http://www.gulllake.org/.

Reminder: There will be no WOL Club on October 24...Enjoy the Fall Break. We'll meet next on October 31.

The Ultimate Movie Night

We had 19 Jr. High students from WOL over this evening for a movie night. The film we saw was The Ultimate Gift. To summarize... "As the self-absorbed grandson of billionaire oil baron Red Stevens, Jason Stevens lacks nothing—except purpose. But when the old tycoon dies and leaves behind an unorthodox will, Jason embarks on a journey that will yield an inheritance cash alone could never match."
It was a little crowded but we fit everyone in.

We stopped about halfway through the film for an intermission and some snacks.

Below are a few pictures from the night!

Come to GLM Night

On Wednesday, October 17, our Word of Life Club will run a little differently as we welcome Gull Lake Ministries (GLM). We invite WOL and AWANA parents and our church family to spend an evening with our WOL Club learning about GLM.

Join us for a fun evening with prizes to be given away and root beer floats to end the evening with!

GLM is a ministry focused on serving families. They are located in Hickory Corners, MI, near Kalamazoo. My family and I have been there each of the past three years to their summer camp. They also have camp on Labor Day weekend and other events throughout the year. Our experiences have been super every time we have gone and it is always a wonderful time of spiritual growth.

NOTE: The AWANA program will run as normal on Wednesday.

Work Day

We had a work day today with eight members of our youth group showing up to help out. We split up into two teams sending one to Remington and one to Rensselaer. The crew in Rensselaer, helped with washing a car and doing some yard work. The crew in Remington helped with washing windows and cleaning out a horse stall. Clearly the Remington crew worked much harder as it is no easy chore cleaning out a horse stall. We didn't get it all cleaned out but made pretty good progress. So, if you wonder who it is that stinks in church tomorrow, it might be me.

Regardless of the work, it was a pleasure to serve and help out a few people in our church family.

I would like to thank all the WOL kids and leaders who were able to help out today. God Bless!

Wii Bii Chillin'

We had a blast this evening at "Chill with Phil". We played Nintendo Wii (pronounced "wee") most of the night. We got some pictures and video of the action for you to enjoy.

In the picture above left, Amanda, Jessi and Heather enjoy some snacks. In the picture above right, Amanda gets set to tee off in Wii Golf. However, Amanda really struggled to find her putting game and thus, did not fair too well in this game. Jessi dominated finishing the three hole round at -1. In the picture below, I am giving golfing lessons to Josh as he works on his approach to the hole.

Another game we had a blast with was bowling. No pictures are available of that one but it was dominated by Jessi (again) as well as Dave. Have YOU ever bowled in YOUR living room? Fun stuff.

One of the most physically intensive games was boxing. Check out the video (bottom of post) of Dave and Josh going at it!

You can also check out the picture of Dave and Josh in head-to-head action! But Phil was not to be denied as the champ in this one going 2-0 versus what turned out to be not so tought competition! NOT IN MY HOUSE!!

All you Sr. High kids, be sure to join us at the next Chill with Phil night!

Videos Available!

If you want to get an idea of how the Kickoff went, check out the video! It is in Windows Media (wmv) format so for best results you can view it on your windows media player. It may work better if you download it first.

You can also check out our music video we put together last year with some of our Jr. High students to the song "Live Out Loud."

Sr. High - Don't forget to come out to Phil and Heather's house for "Chill with Phil" on September 14. I know many of you have football games to attend but we'll still be chillin' until 11:00 pm, so come on out afterwards!

Kickoff Results

We had a total of 64 teens between grade 6 and 12 come out to our Word of Life Kickoff on Wednesday. They were divided into six teams to compete for the coveted "Walk by Faith" trophy. The battle took place between the Blue, Orange, Camo, Lime, Yellow and Checkered color bandana teams and in the end, it was the Orange team coming out on top.

The games ranged from an obstacle course, to a golf challenge where the teens were blind-folded, to a wheelbarrow run, a watermelon relay and marshmallow steppin'.

Our Word of Life Club meets Wednesday evenings from 6-7:30 pm at Tri-County Bible Church.
